The biological responses of androgens are mainly arbitrated by the androgen receptors. Target tissues such as the liver, prostate, central nervous system and skeletal muscle, to name a few, are enhanced with the highest response in the adrenal glands and prostate. Some men have higher body fat and lower lean mass because they have rare mutations of the androgen receptors.
The physiological impact of these receptors have been shown in animal studies that dole out the androgen receptors antagonist (which cease the effects of the androgens which bind it to its receptor) during muscle workloads which are overbearing and those who have low muscle hypertrophy. This implies that the route that the androgen takes has a potent consequence in exercise promoted muscle hypertrophy and stresses the importance in the increase in the number of quality receptors in muscles that are exercised. Interestingly enough, rats going through puberty had suppressed muscle growth in lab tests.
The non-steroid class of drugs called SARMS (Selective Androgen Receptor Modulators) were created to minimize the side effects of testosterone by aiding in full anabolic activity in bone and muscle while decreasing the negative side effects on the skin, prostate and hair without having an influence on sex drive and sperm productivity. The great thing about SARMS is that it has a very low effect on the liver and promotes no estrogenic activity and therefore no gyno and it is wonderful for the prostate and hair growth as it has a low binding effect for these two. SARMS also promote full anabolic activity in the bones and muscle but nonetheless have a very low effect of the prostate and its great for the androgen receptors ad they have a 1000 and more less binding effect for receptors. It is important to note that these drugs are still undergoing clinical testing, but the end game results look very good.
Having a positive effect on muscle, bone and sexual activity independent from the conversion of androgens into estrogen27 SARMS can be orally taken and is a non- aromatizable androgen.
