Default Cardio - Incline + Walking Good Fat Burner?

My gf has messed up knees from playing basketball and has had surgery on them a few years back. They're not messed up by any means but running for duration still kills her, whether on a treadmill or outside, new shoes, etc... She's looking to tone up so I was thinking instead she could do the treadmill at a 2mph or so pace for 45 min for 3x a week, maybe @ an incline, would be effective? Her diet is very clean but wants to add cardio in.

Have you guys seen good results from walking @ an incline on the treadmill in terms of fatloss as compared to running? What did you schedule look like. Thnx

Hey BB! I have had good results with walking at an incline on the treadmill. I did that before my last comp for an hour session at a time. I would recommend, if at all possible, she do it first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. Then eat about an hour after finishing her session. Just my opinion, but that is what works best for me. Good luck to her!

Thank Jul. Is the incline necessary or would flat treadmill walking yield about the same results?

I personally like the incline. It gets my heart rate up a lot more than walking flat, thus burns more calories!

this is a great idea- i used walking on an incline to get ready for all of my shows- not as muscle-wasting as running, and much, MUCH easier when you're on restricted calories lol... it also really helps tighten up the back of the legs and glutes. good luck!

if she wants cardio, and not to bulk, she needs to swim.
if you learn the strokes and get the breathing right you can really get your heartrate up. Plus it's great on your knees

Recumbent bike is better ...it puts your torso lower than your legs....your pump has to work more

Do the tredmill @2 to 4 mph at the highest incline that the tredmill will go to, that is if your tredmill can inline. That should get you into the fat burning zone and not effect the muscles that much.

are you looking for easy or are you looking for some good results? Put the tredmill at its highest incline and walk @ 2 to 4 mphs.
