Default My buddy wants me to train his wife. Suggestions?

I consider myself very knowlegable when it comes to male training, and have had several clients. My friend wants me to train his wife, as she's leaving her current trainer. I have a general idea what I want to do, but any help regarding training splits, routines, alternative exercises would be great.

I should add a few things. She's has the fitness model physique, and is in quite good shape now. Her goals are to maintain what she has now, obviously, and tone somewhat more. That has a lot to do with diet also, which I'm addressing. Her weak areas are her quads/hams/glutes and lats. Delts are very good, as is her abs and chest.

Hey E! From what you are saying it sounds like her legs are her problem area. So with that being said, I would have her train them 2x per week. Personally, I think the BEST exercise for legs, and glutes are squats. Maybe have her do a heavy leg day at the begining of the week and then a lighter leg day 3 days later. So maybe heavy on Mon and then light on Thurs. Lunges are also good as are split squats and SLDL. You are right though, diet is probably the most important thing in loosing fat, expecially in the leg area for women. Hope this helps you out a little bit. Oh...and I would def have her doing cardio on her non-training days. First thing in the morning on an empty stomach has always worked best for me. Jul

Ok, I'm not going to bang her. I'm actually banging her friend. Anyways, thanks Jul. Do you feel that working the same muscle group would be overtraining? That does concern me. As far as squats go, I defintely want to start her doing that. Man or woman, squats are the connerstone of a good routine.

I don't think she will have to worry about overtraining as long as she is eating enough and sleeping well. I have never had a problem with it anyway. I have actually been told by a judge that my legs overpowered my upperbody. And I train my legs 2x per week. I guess you could just try her on it and see what works best for her as everyone is different. Jul
