what about shoulders? and you should do abs more often. at 5'6", 117# you sound perfect. but, as your goal is to gain "muscle", here's what you do:
eat more than you burn; and lift progressively heavier weights.
to do this, you'll need to (sorta) calculate your calorie intake, particularly protein and carbs. don't believe that all sugars/carbs are bad, either; particularly if you'll be working out harder and harder.
for protein: unless you are rich, there's little reason to spend too much money on the overly commercialized crap that's out there. it's not a better quality product than say TRUEPROTEIN.COM. get a good, filtered isolate which will hopefully be easy on your stomach. also, the obvious: drink milk, eat egg whites, and plenty of meat (steak, pork, fish, chicken, tubesteak).
studies have shown (whether right or wrong) that women are twice as inefficient at the gym than are men. in short, we isolate our muscle groups better; get in, and get out.
there's plenty of good advice on this and similar forums. stay plugged in - keep visiting us and solicit more advice. we're here to help. especially if you start out by including a photograph ahead of time (so we know where you need to improve - and trust me, we'll be honest).
