Walkign Lunges?
Ive asked this in the reg. training forum, but in my experience females are more versed in leg training than guys are.. so...
What is your opinion of this excersize? If you do perform this motion, what muscles are you tryign to target? What do you think the benefits are bb vs. db? Walking vs. Stationary?

I do walking lunges with 25lb dumbbells in the walkway at my gym. I'm only 5'3, so my legs aren't very long, so I manage to get approx. 12 Reps/Leg for 1 set per Lap.
I find them to be a great overall leg excercise. They hit my quads, hams, and glutes.
If I am targeting my glutes more, I incorporate a knee-up (kinda like a step up with out the bench) into the lunge.
It's a killer for sure....I love to train legs!!

Ive never done them consistently, but dont the dbs get a bit cumbersome to hold?
Im imagining that a bb is out of the question becuase Id be clotheslining people left and right.

I think it depends on where you do them...
Even with DBs I tend to have people getting in my way! I lunge right through their path when they do that!!

sorry to digress here... this reminded me about the girl at the gym last week who was doing them on the treadmill. i was waiting for her to crack her head open.

Actually, I DO do them w/ a barbell. People tend to stay out of your way even when you do DB's. I feel that doing it with a BB is somewhat easier when it comes to your center of gravity...and I do fell more pull in my glutes and quads because I am able to concentrate more on my form than trying to balance.

Good point RS! I have never tried them with a barbell...I will this week though. People will try to walk around you, if they don't go through them... Kidding, be nice!

I do them at the gym as well with dumbbells. I totally agree with Brenny. They are an excellent exercise for quads, hams and glutes!
I love lunges too!
