Mate! there are so many ways to peak for a show. Some more effective than others. Stick with a plan, if you cock it up it will be down to aspects of that particular straturgy. In time you will accumilate a good knowledge of what works best for yourself.
Going high gi then low gi potentially runs risks of over spill.
PM me buddie, i will give you some pointers that will help you.

YOU NEED TO DRINK A LOT MORE WATER! Wed drink 4.5-5 gallons thursday 3 gallons friday 1.5 gallon saturday 1 gallon, YOULL GET SO DRY! my finace did that for a national show he just competed in he didnt have an ounce of water in him! Skip lacuer does it like that. Hes bad ass and natural. Youll feel like your going crazy the day you drink 5 gallons but Im telling you youll be dry as hell! Prior to wed drink 2.5 gallons.

Dont mess with your sodium, cut it out early. I have never done that and drink more water prior to wed.

what benefit does having high-glycaemic carbs on the 1st day of carb loading?

Why not just stick with slow digesting carbs?
